Afternoon Delight - 01/17/09

Features two new tracks from Franz Ferdinand, Turn it On & Lucid Dreams. It's been four years since their previous album. Some fear the third record & the album hints to a reinvention of their sound, take the Hot Chip-esque DIY electronica of the sprawling conclusion to the seven minute track Lucid Dreams. Check it for yourself. Their new album is titled Tonight & it will be released January 27th.

Iran - Buddy off of thier upcoming album Dissolver. Before Kyp Malone was the guitarist for TV on the Radio, he was a member of this band. They are set to release their tird album February 3rd. Dissolver is promised to expand the sonic palette of Iran's bedroom noise rock twiddling (they recorded their first albums on a four-track) into a lusher sound, and epic sounding first single "Buddy" would seem to bear that out. Lead singer and songwriter Aaron Aites, like on Iran's previous efforts, handles all of the songwriting, with Malone and guitarist Aaron Romanello providing the music, and TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek reportedly lends a producing hand on some of the tracks.

Asobi Seksu - Familiar Light, The Brooklyn based band releases their third record titled Hush on February 17th. Shimmering, dew-draped riffs and spiral staircase melodies are blurred by bits of guitar violence, and sputtering drums are bolstered by the ethereal vocals of Yuki Chikudate.

Sune Rose Wagner - Beruset Og Forhadt, Sune is one half of the Raveonettes & I just recently found out aht he released a solo self titled album.

Bloggin' for a worthwhile Cause - Neko Case: "People Got a Lot of Nerve"

Who's one of my absolute favorite female singer/songwriters? Those of you who are close to me will most likely answer with Neko Case. Well today I found out that she & her record label Anti-Records are running a benefit/promotion starting today & running through February 3rd.

The following was posted on her website:

"Today, we are especially happy to bring you “People Got A Lotta Nerve,” the first single from
Neko Cases forthcoming album Middle Cyclone (out March 3), because for every blog that reposts the song and/or iLike user who adds it to their profile, Neko Case and ANTI- will make a cash donation to Best Friends Animal Society.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2009,
Best Friends Animal Society is one of America’s foremost animal rescue organizations. Founded in 1984, Best Friends advances nationwide animal welfare initiatives by working with shelter and rescue groups around the country. On any given day Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the nation’s largest facility for abused, abandoned and special needs companion animals located in southwestern Utah, is home to approximately 2,000 dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds, and other animals. The society also publishes Best Friends magazine, the nation’s largest general interest, pet-related magazine with approximately 300,000 subscribers. For more information, visit www.bestfriends.org."

God I love this woman. I know I have plenty of iLike friends out there so get posting & help a great cause. Download "People Got a Lot of Nerve" here

Afternoon Delight 01/10/08

Features new tracks from:

Surf City - New Zealanders originally known as Kill Surf City. Sound familiar? They pulled their name from a Jesus & Mary Chain track. If your a fan of lo-fi sounds, this band is for you.

The Antlers - a Brooklyn based band led by singer/song writer Peter Silberman. After nearly 2 years of work (and a handful of EPs) they are getting ready to self-release Hospice, the follow up to 2007’s In The Attic Of The Universe, on March 3. They are a band to keep an eye out for.

Peter Bjorn & John - the boys of PB&J sent Kanye West their new track & gave him permission to post it on his blog. Why Kanye? I'm not sure. But hey I'm not going to complain. The track is titled Nothing to Worry About.

Telepathe - Brooklyn duo Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudis are about to release their upcoming album Dance Mother available for download January 27th or physical release March 10th. The most attractive thing about the album is that it was produced by TV on the Radio's very own David Sitek.

Fever Ray - The Knife's Karin Dreijer Andersson has a new side project called Fever Ray & her debut album will be available digitally on the 13th or physically on March 29th. This week saw the release of the music video for If I Had a Heart, it was directed by Andreas Nilsson (Jose Gonzales, The Knife, Love is All, Goldfrapp & even some Yo Gabba Gabba).
